🌿 WHAT IS AN ESSENCE?
Essences can come in the form of a Flower Essence, a Mushroom Essence or even an Essence captured from a natural source or a wild place that's of the Earth. These essences are believed to contain the vibrational energy of the flower or mushroom etc.
Flower Essences are made by either floating the plants in water or calling upon their spirit while being amongst them and your water cup during ceremony. The alchemy between the plant, the water, and the moonlight help infuse the essence of the plant into the water. Just like how we are succumb with good feelings when we think of someone or something we love, the same happens on a vibrational level with plants, and this is a big part of their medicine. An ‘Essence of a Place’ is inspired by the same concept of flower essences. Tho instead of harnessing the spirit of a plant, it harnesses the healing energy of a special place that exists in the sacred, wild wilderness.
Essences are thought to help improve negative emotions, alleviate anxiety, pain and help one feel more grounded. They are thought of as being a powerful way to help break down internal energetic blockages, allowing one to further connect to themselves, others, the Great Mother and all of her creations on this deeply vibrational level. These essences are a vessel in which to pass on the energetic magic & lessons of whatever plant is being utilized, helping overcome various imbalances.
Typically if a plant can't be taken internally for either toxic reasons or harmful alkaloids (like comfrey or foxglove), they usually have so many wisdoms and lessons to offer us energetically. And it usually means these plants are incredibly powerful. Essences are a special and intimate way of bonding with the plants and the earth, and cultivating that energy within.
🌿 HOW I CRAFT MY ESSENCES:
I love to work with plants out in the wild, untouched by humans and usually chose wilderness places I visit often. I spend a lot of time in ceremony with them, making Essences on holy days like Sabbaths & along with the Moon phases. I work with plants I’m really drawn to, that comfort & teach me lessons. I often cry, give offerings, sit, sing & talk to them while explaining my intentions in seeking their guidance. It’s a deeply grounding and connective act for my spirit, resulting in creating Essences for self & others, making the whole experience feel cyclical & beautiful. I often use the non-pick method for poisonous plants like Foxglove.
I use local mountain spring water & the only thing I have of my Great Grandmother - her crystal bowl that was passed down through my Motherline, to me. I wander around, touching & singing to the blooms while asking their help & guidance. I ask their willingness to lend their vibrational energy & wisdoms over to us. I sit beside the bowl in the Meadow, I am often moved to tears as the meadow of blooms hold me, as the Moonlight reflects brilliantly through the crystal bowl.
I have created a collection of so many wonderful essences throughout the years and I hope one or more of them calls to you, and becomes a wonderful integration into your self care and healing journeys. 🙏🏼🌿✨
